Overview of Ellen White Writings- Love Under Fire!  Tribulation-A World View Today!

 By Dr. Kathy Pruett, Phd.

“Satan constantly tries to misrepresent the character of God, the nature of sin, and the real issues at stake in the great controversy. His false arguments give people permission to sin” (White, p. 232). We see the writings of Ellen White coming true today in that the Nations thrive to call good evil and evil good. We can see evil all around us in the world today as Ellen White predicted.  False arguments is an interesting word in other words saying something is accepted by society does not make it God’s truth. In the world we see abortion, rape , same sex marriage and other ideas that are acceptable to society, this does not mean that it is acceptable according to the word of God.  Ellen White prophesy’s the cruelties of the end times as we are seeing Christians and Jews persecuted for their faith. “By such perverted ideas of God’s character, Satan led heathen nations to believe that human sacrifices were necessary to secure God’s favor” (White p.232). We can see this in the thoughts that are in the religion of Radical Islam “People carry out horrible cruelties under various forms of Idolatry” beheading, rape, crime, perversion, marrying child brides. Radical Islam hates Israel and its standards of the Biblical ideals. The last day the working of the Holy Spirit will be necessary and critical to endure the end times. According to Ellen White, The endowment of the Holy Spirit is indispensably essential to success in your great work. Said Christ, “Without me ye can do nothing.” [John 15:5.] But through Christ strengthening you, you can do all things.—Testimonies for the Church 4:313” ( White, 1892 p 47). It now more than ever that God’s people arise and publicize the truth and bring those who are willing to yield themselves to God out of darkness and into the light.  Ellen White describes their attitudes and hearts-“Their self-love, their love of popularity, and love of praise, exclude the Saviour from their hearts; and without Him there is sadness and gloom” (White, 1909 ). They feel there is no need for God in their lives, because they have made idols of this world their god. Our part is to guide them to the truth in love. Ellen White expresses the joy of a sinner that receives Christ- “But Christ dwelling in the soul is a well-spring of joy. For all who receive Him, the keynote of the word of God is “rejoicing (White, 1909 ).” We are going to go through trails and great Tribulation, but our reward is not in this Earthly Kingdom. “Earthly kingdoms rule by ascending of physical power, but from Christ’s Kingdom every carnal weapon, every instrument of coercion is banished” (White, p.12.2). The pollution of the world’s sin is corrupting every part of society. “At that time many will fall away and will betray one another and hate one another. 11″Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many”. 12″Because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold, But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved” (Holy Bible). There has been an increased rise in lawlessness with rioting and looting in the land.  The end times have been described in the context of the Bible Text. Isaiah 29:13 “The Lord says: “These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught” ( Holy Bible). 2nd Timothy 3:2-4 “People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good. Treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—then we examine verse 5 -having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people” (Holy Bible).  This is referring to Religious leaders that pull the sheep in the ditch with them ( avoid them and their practices). Pray for people that they accept Christ (salvation) and his standards (sanctification), forgive them, but stand up for the word of God. Arise O Bride of Christ- times of trouble are coming- imprisonment camps, martyrs, sufferings all for the kingdom.  According to Ellen White, “Those who are empowered with authority will say to them as they said to Paul, “Thou art beside thyself;” and when persuasion and entreaty are in vain, heavier pressure will be brought to bear, and the steadfastness of Christ’s followers will be tested to the uttermost” ( White, 1894). We see that God’s people will be hard pressed during the time of trouble. Our role is to keep bringing the truth of God’s word to the forefront and that salvation is available. “The fact that times of trouble and persecution are before the people of God must not deter them in the least from proclaiming the truth” (White, 1894). As times get harder and the economy is collapsing cooperation, bartering and survival will all be a factor as opposition arises against the people of God. We must put our trust in God and help one another and keep the faith. Amen, I hope you have enjoyed this end time message. The Power of the Spoken Word

The Power of The Spoken Word

The Power of the Spoken Word
The Bible has many purposes for the Word of God to be given to the people. God has chosen Clergymen as Ministers to participate in this undertaking. Jesus commanded us to preach in Acts 10:42 “And He commanded us to preach to unto the people and to testify that it was he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of the quick and the dead” (Holy Bible). Jesus sent them forth to preach in Mark 16:15 states; “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” (Holy Bible). God sent men to spread His Holy Word for the salvation of men through Christ Jesus who shed His blood as a living sacrifice; so that we may be forgiven and have everlasting life. Ministers work in cooperation with the Holy Spirit, as we speak God’s message communicating to others by which they are able to receive enlightenment. The minister acts as a vessel and as a representative of Christ and is never alone as the Holy Spirit is present; as well as Jesus dwelling within him. “We do not stand up before others, Bible in hand, alone; we stand up in and with Jesus” (Johnson, 2009 p.12). In this the Holy Spirit works to give us the message whether it is for correction, instruction or salvation. In 2 Timothy 3:16 it states; “Every Scripture passage is inspired by God. All of them are useful for teaching, pointing out errors, correcting people, and training them for a life that has God’s approval” (Holy Bible).

Working of the Holy Spirit
The power of the Holy Spirit is effective at work during the sermon by the way of conveying the message through the Preacher, opening the hearts and minds of the congregation. In a sermon by Charles Spurgeon he said; “First, in that the Holy Ghost has a power over men’s hearts” (Johnson 2001 p.1). The Minister conveys the message to the congregants and the Holy Spirit begins to work through the living Word from the mouth of the minister to the ears of the listeners. “What makes preaching work is the Preacher, who, by his Spirit is at work, and with the text, in and with the preacher, in and with the listeners” (Johnson, 2009 p.12). This working continues pricking the hearts of men through the progression of the sermon as to many it brings conviction. Spurgeon conveys it very well in his sermon no. 30; “It is concerning the power of the Holy Ghost that I shall speak this morning; and may you have a practical exemplification of that attribute in your own hearts, when you shall feel that the influence of the Holy Ghost is being poured out upon me, so that I am speaking the words of the living God to your souls, and bestowed upon you when you are feeling the effects of it in your own spirits” (Johnson 2001 p.1) There is a battle between good and evil when the word is being preached and it is the Holy Spirit through God’s word that overcomes those who are blinded by sin. In Matthew 13:19 states; “When anyone hears the word of the Kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in the heart” (Holy Bible).

Inappropriate Application
The purpose of the sermon is to give unto edification to the body of Christ to deliver God’s word and to bring salvation to those who are lost. A sermon that is given not for that purpose is going against can be harmful and in opposition to God’s will. For example: The sermon is for the purpose of prosperity in the way of greed or to appease the crowd, then it will be misleading when the opposite happens to the listeners and it will send a false message. One is not under the influence of the Holy Spirit; it is a sermon that will be uninspired. “Without His empowerment, the preacher will resort to manipulative techniques and fleshly coercions with the listener” (Kolstad, 2011 p.1). It could often cause the listeners to reject or blame God for their failure to uphold the standard of that sermon which was not from God. It is a false message that causes people to fall away or lose their faith. In 1 Timothy 4:1 states; “The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons” (Holy Bible). One has a duty to give the truth to the people and apply the Bible scriptures in an appropriate manner. Augustine writes: “The interpreter and teacher of the divine scriptures—therefore, the defender of right faith and the hammer of error—has the duty of both teaching what is good, and un-teaching what is bad” (O’Conner 2012 p1).

Delivering Sermons in the Local Church
The reason for delivering the sermon in the local church is to bring about salvation and educate the congregation on their duties and privileges, as well as organize them for outreach to the local community. Sermons are giving to the local church deliver messages which are relevant to their issues like marriage, family, and treating one another with the love of Christ. One is to fellowship with a body of believers as the community of faith. The local church is our God given support system in which we fellowship together in prayer and study of the word. The church comes together to help one another, as well as the sick and the poor. In Acts 2:1 it states; “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place” (Holy Bible).

Conclusion
Jesus commands that the gospel is to be preached to everyone and the Bible describes the appropriate way to live according to the principles of God; therefore a Preacher is necessary to give instruction. When the word of God is spoken through a Minister something occurs that causes a change in the hearts of men through the power of the Holy Spirit. “For in preaching the good news of Jesus Christ( which is ultimately what an Biblical text preaches), it turns out that we are participating with the living God in God’s ongoing transformation of the world” (Johnson, 2009 p.7). The Holy Spirit is constantly at work through the minister to the hearts of the congregation. The minister is to use caution not to misapply the meaning of the scripture as it is crucial that we do not apply our own thinking as it can cause damage to others. The Preacher who teaches in the local church gives the life giving message of salvation and instruction as the Bible is a guide for those who want to live a life according to the precepts of Jesus Christ.
“Effective preaching, then, is preaching which is aimed
at the whole human person: preaching which appeals to
the mind through teaching, exposing, correcting and
explaining; preaching which captures the imagination,
adding delight to the presentation of the truth and making
it memorable; and preaching which prods the will with
words that implore, rebuke and stir into action” (O’Conner.2012 p1).
This action changes something within us, because of the living breathing, life giving Scriptures.
